Parkinson’s Law

Its 21st century, everything is in hustle bustle; requirement is to complete the work in lesser time with an even higher proficiency. There is a restrictive philosophy in our society that working harder and arduously is better than working rapidly and smartly. But, we need a better and a wiser solution now. Parkinson’s Law which states that “Work expands to fill the time available for its completion”. This statement was made by Cyril Northcote Parkinson in 1855. It’s an observation based upon the daily life and it is related to psychology. The statement means that if we have a task which can be completed in just two hours maximum, but instead of giving our self two hours to complete it, we give it one complete week! That’s when the task increases in complexity (psychologically speaking) and will become more frustrating so as to fill in that week.

Actually, it is the stress and tension which gnaws at us from the inside just because we have not completed the task. It can be very tiring and demoralizing. The solution to this problem is to give an appropriate amount of time to the task at hand. A person should be able to guess just how much time is required to complete the task. If we assign the proper time, it helps us to gain back more time and reduce the task to its natural state. The complexity can be very unnerving sometimes and it also reduces the proficiency and mind devitalize so quickly that the willpower to do the next task also deteriorates.

In order to complete a 5 minutes task, give it just 1 minute. It’s race against time. This really tests the person’s ability and efficiency. The ones who are better at this race will be more likely to survive in life. Most people give a longer time to the task because they need some “leg room” or some ease for themselves. But mostly they don’t know their own ability; they have no idea that they can complete the task in lesser time. For success, a person should make a to-do-list and assign a particular time limit for each and every task and then complete the task in half of that time. Also, people should also be serious in their deadlines. Another requirement for triumph is to kill the cockroaches such as emails, facebook and other social networking sites. Yes, a person should also use them but not more than time necessary for it. One should complete the task at hand at first and then indulge in socializing.
